Good day, orchid lovers! I'm checking in from the Oxmill Tent at The Landing on Cane Bay, here in the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands on St. Croix, and I want to spotlight a special orchid that I think deserves more attention.
The Overlooked Gem: Dwarf Grammatophyllum Scriptum
We have a few of these charming orchids in stock right now, and I suspect they’re being overlooked simply because people don’t know much about them. This particular variety is a dwarf Grammatophyllum scriptum, a smaller version of the massive species many collectors may already be familiar with.
While traditional Grammatophyllum scriptums can grow 3–4 feet across and shoot out flower spikes that reach up to 5 feet tall, not everyone has the space to accommodate an orchid of that size. That’s where this dwarf version becomes the perfect addition to your collection.
Compact Size, Stunning Blooms
The plant I’m holding currently has two flower spikes. One spike has five nearly fully opened blooms, and the other is budding with two more on the way. The beauty of this variety is that the blooms last, so you’ll likely get to enjoy both sets of flowers at the same time.
This orchid typically blooms once a year, right around this time, making it a reliable seasonal beauty.
Personal Favorite: Coral-Mounted and Thriving
I’ve had my own dwarf Grammatophyllum scriptum for about five years, and it’s been mounted on a piece of coral in my orchid garden the entire time. It’s hanging from a palm tree, and it’s never looked better. This is the first time it has re-bloomed continuously, sending out flower spikes for nearly two months straight. I'm absolutely delighted with it.
A Great Orchid for Any Collection
We currently have three dwarf Grammatophyllum scriptums in stock at just $25 each. If you’ve been wanting to add a Grammatophyllum to your garden but don’t have space for a giant, this is your chance to own a smaller, easier-to-manage version without sacrificing beauty.
